Join Battle Tested

Battle Tested Veterans (BTV) is a non-profit organization that uses the power of first-person narratives to challenge veteran stereotypes and bridge the gap between transitioning military members and civilian hiring influencers. Founded in 2015, our mission is to use the art of storytelling to connect communities, cultivate understanding and prove our battle-tested veterans are invaluable corporate assets.

Want to join us in connecting veterans and community one story at a time? Read on! BTV is building the active, working board that will lay the foundation to expand our organizations’ reach and impact across the US among transitioning veterans, talent acquisition professionals and hiring influencers.

As a board, we are a dynamic collection of humans. Although we all have military backgrounds, that is not a requirement to join the BTV squad. We do, however, want to understand your connection to and passion for supporting the veteran community.

Looking forward, we are ramping up our impact in the talent acquisition and corporate hiring space, so any experience or ties you have with this realm will definitely peak our interest. Long story short, if you are a born bulldozer looking to challenge veteran stereotypes and help transitioning military service members reach their full potential, let’s chat.

Treasurer

As part of our growing all-volunteer organization, we need a Treasurer to collaborate closely with the Board President and Operations Lead to help BTV build a financially stable organization.

Who You Are

Integrity and transparency are your mantras. With 4+ years in the corporate financial management space, you have a strong knowledge of current nonprofit accounting practices, understand nonprofit tax laws and tout a flawless fiscal track record. Although you are passionate about community enrichment and giving back, you are not one to forget the pragmatism in operating and growing a successful non-profit.

You have at least 5 hours a month to commit to a volunteer board position including the monthly board meetings and are already excited to join us for our BTV annual flagship event in San Francisco. Bonus points for a CPA certification!

What you’ll do

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help BTV oversee and manage our organization’s finances while also serving as an enthusiastic ambassador for our cause. Specific duties include:

  • Manage and oversee the ins and outs of BTV’s financials – plain and simple

  • Provide, present detailed financial reports at monthly board meetings

  • Manage key filings including 990, 1099, permits/licenses, charitable solicitation registrations, etc...

  • Keep us straight! Receive, reconcile bank statements; audit annually

  • Give a friendly heads up - identify and manage risk

  • Ensure organization solvency – keep that cash flow steady

  • Confirm donor contributions – we will help with writing thank-you notes

  • Drum roll, please... Plan, present and evaluate annual budget

  • Contribute or raise a minimum of $500 per year for BTV

  • Attend the annual flagship event

Operations Lead

As part of our growing all-volunteer organization, we need a Secretary to keep us organized and “above board” working closely with our Board President, Melissa Boatwright, and Treasurer.

Who You Are

You think clear, concise communication is at the core of every successful interaction. Whether your background is in corporate communications, public relations, operations, or office administration, you have 2+ years in the corporate game and are a die-hard stickler for structure and organization. Although you are passionate about community enrichment and giving back, you are not one to forget the pragmatism needed to operate and grow a successful non-profit.

You have at least 5 hours a month to commit to a volunteer board position including our monthly board meetings and are already excited to join us for our BTV annual flagship event in San Francisco in November.

What you’ll do

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help oversee and manage our organization’s organization. Specific duties include:

  • Moderate/manage monthly board meetings – schedule, set agenda, distribute meeting materials, and manage/record meeting minutes

  • Be the BTV hall monitor – know the bylaws better than the President and be shameless in keeping us all on the straight and narrow

  • Serve as primary communicator – you are the lead communication liaison for BTV among board members, volunteers, speakers, donors, and more

  • Keep the calendar – you maintain the master calendar and are on top of any and every upcoming deadline; you have no fear keeping the team on task and cracking the whip if the needle needs to move

  • Maintain governing records – with both hard and electronic copies, you have BTV’s governing documents and policies meticulously organized and secured

  • Contribute or raise a minimum of $500 per year for BTV

  • Attend the annual flagship event (usually occurs each year in October/November)
